SMARTS is an organisation strongly focused on R&D, maintaining internally the two key components of research most relevant to our space – staying ahead in technology advances and domain knowledge on market surveillance. Our origins and products are developed from extensive R&D work, undertaken by an innovative team of academic and software development experts.

Beyond the simple need for speed, the directions of our R&D efforts are currently in a range of areas:
R&D Challenges
On the technology side, we are facing a number of interesting challenges that largely determine our ongoing R&D efforts. First and foremost, the strong increase in transaction rates over the recent past is a trend set to continue, on the back of low latency trading and related developments. This means that we are constantly working on ways to increase our processing speeds and capacities. Our experimental systems now handle several billion transactions per day in real time before further parallelising, and we are targeting 20 billion/day in the foreseeable future.
Domain Experts
Our company is now built on domain experts, our sales and product management, and indeed our corporate management, consists exclusively of market surveillance experts, comprising a combination of practitioners with a long track record and those with an outstanding research track record. Their work includes continued involvement in international developments in market regulations, through a number of channels. This in turn feeds into the continued development of our technology to address in particular the more challenging aspects of the market environment today, as it is again in a phase of substantial change.
